Pollarding
What is pollarding?
Pollarding is a pruning technique to maintain a tree at a specific height. The original pruning cuts take place on an immature tree at the desired height and is then followed up with regular cyclic pruning, normally every couple of years.
At each pruning interval all sprouts are removed to leave knuckles at the top of the trunk. This technique is more common on walkways or parks as it is a quick method to achieve pruning a large number of trees efficiently, but can also be effective for private properties too. It is especially useful for properties wanting to keep their sea views. Also where the tree provides a shade spot for an outdoor seating area.
This type of pruning technique works for most common tree species, but not all. Get in touch with us today to see if this is the right approach for your tree.
